Egg Diagram
Formulated by Roberto Assagioli and provides a quick overview of the Psychosynthesis model of the psyche. It is a map of consciousness depicting the various aspects and areas, with the self ('I') being a central point within the larger picture. As a map it is intended as one representation only, and is not the only way of modelling the mind.

Parts of the Egg Diagram
- The Lower Unconscious
- The Middle Unconscious
- The Higher Unconscious or Superconscious
- The Field of Consciousness
- The Conscious Self or "I"
- The Higher Self (Transpersonal Self, Deep Self)
- The Collective Unconscious
Symbolism is very important in Psychosynthesis. The symbolism of an egg is apt, as the dotted lines indicate that the divisions are not solid, but permeable, just like a bird egg where the shell appears hard but is actually permeable.
Likewise, although the Higher Self ia located at both the top of the diagram, it's influence can be found throughout the psyche. As such, the Higher Self is sometimes referred to as the Deep Self as it is at the very core of our consciousness and being.
